City College Plymouth bricklaying students and apprentices are learning their trade with the latest industry-standard equipment thanks to a generous donation of bespoke Gatorback mortarboards from Miers Construction Products Ltd.
Andy McDonald, Branch Manager at Miers Construction Products Ltd, said: “After establishing our sixth branch in Launceston in April, Miers wanted to do something to support local colleges and the tradesmen of the future. As a Plymouth boy and former student of City College Plymouth, I wanted to help equip students with the best tools in the bricklaying trade. “Reusable, sustainable and virtually indestructible, the mortarboards are something they can use for years and years. We hope they will support their learning, increase productivity and that the students will consider using them in their future careers.”
City College Plymouth’s Academy Manager of Construction and Allied Trades, Charlie Pond, said: “We would like to thank Miers Construction Products Ltd for their generous donation and know these mortarboards will change the way that our students work. They really stand out and are ‘green’ in more ways than one: the colour helps to combat health and safety hazards in the workplace and the mortarboards are also reusable – so they aid the College’s green initiative.
“At City College Plymouth, we build industry links with both companies and suppliers to help our students to get their foot on the career ladder, and it is great to establish a relationship with Miers.”
