Firefighters battled through the night to bring a major blaze on a demolition site in Bedford under control on Saturday.

Fire broke out at Bedford’s former town hall where work started on a six-month demolition programme  three weeks ago.

The building is being brought down in stages to pave the way for a new leisure development.

Bedford Fire and Rescue said: “The building is unused and due to be demolished over the next few months. No reports of anyone injured.”
